When Businesses Expand Past their Owners

Many small businesses begin by employing one person – the president of the fledgling corporation. Like it or not, that person who loves his product or service must market, sell, and administrate the office until he can afford to hire help.

Depending on the type of business, that next employee may be office help, a technician, or a sales person.  All are important additions.

If the next in line to be hired is the sales personnel, read the article by Cindy Vanegas on FOXBusiness published online July 25, 2011 (see link below), titled “How to Hire an External Sales Force.”

Cathy suggests many avenues to build your business in the sales department, including what the best outsourcing company should look like. Also, she notes the responsibilities of the entrepreneur, the sales person, and, if used, the outsource sales organization.

Check out her article and tell me if you agree with her suggestions. Also, have you eve used an outside sales force to help grow your business? If so, what were the overall results? I’m curious as to how well this can work, from every economic view.

How to rebuild our country's economic backbone

University of Buffalo conducts a  20-week Entrepreneurship Training Program (ETP) through their School of Management and the Meszaros International Center of Entrepreneurship (MICE). The school is hailed by many business and financial institutions for its tremendous of return of investment to students.
The program was funded by The Meszaros International Center of Entrepreneurship, a not-for-profit foundation. Go to their website to learn what it takes for more colleges to offer the program.
Rebuilding our economy can be done from the ground up - small business owners and other entrepreneurs are the strength of who this country is.  Without strong forces in small business, we are waving with the economic winds.

Any fave sandwich at your local haunt?

The Top 10 Sandwich Franchises list was published this week at Entrepreneur.com These ten were selected from their Franchise 500 Ranking. I’m not sure exactly why they were selected but the common denominator is healthier meals at affordable costs. Do the outside-in cinnamon bites offered by Arby’s count?

Of them all, I’ve only eaten at two, Subway and Arby’s. Personally I do not like either place.  In fact, it’s been years since I’ve been to a Subway and decades since I’ve eaten at Arby’s. Does that mean I should try them again now that they’ve made this coveted franchise ranking? I might. Or I might look for some of the others listed.

I doubt that any one of them could beat the amazingly delicious sandwiches at Big City Hot Dog in Grandview, MO.  Since I worked in Philadelphia in the 1970s I have not had such an incredible Philly Cheese Steak. Anywhere.  And never could any match the Matty or Big Texas at The Hard Bean Cafe, also in little Grandview. They are man sized sandwiches with just as much flavor (esp that Big Texas).

Have you eaten at any of the franchises listed? What’s your opinion? Do they really belong on the top ten list? Do you have a local fave? Tell us all about it. And, thanks a bunchwich!!

SEOs, oh how they boggle my brain

I am relatively new at understanding the SEO game.  Recently I developed a plan for my numerous sites that felt both wise and workable.
And today I read what the SEO gurus have known about all week: Google has made massive changes in their algorithm, changing much of the site optimization results intended previously.
Something else for me to learn.
But, thanks to the internet, I know about it soon enough for my needs.
Read the article which answers a lot of questions that may prove to be very beneficial to your small business presence on the world wide web.
